The care and location of a rose bush are essential for healthy growth and flowering. Location: Choose a location with sufficient sunlight: Rose bushes need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day for good flowering.

Roses thrive best in well-drained soil. Mix compost or well-decomposed manure into the soil for nutrition and improvement of soil structure. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry spells. However, avoid allowing the roots to remain constantly wet.

Use a fertilizer specifically for roses: Regularly give the rose bush fertilizer that has been specially formulated for roses, following the instructions on the package.

Prune the rose bush in spring: Remove dead, damaged branches and prune to promote shape and growth. Regularly cut off dead flowers to encourage new blooms. With the right care and location, the rose bush can grow healthily and bloom beautifully all season long.

Rose cultivation has a rich history that has developed over the years. The cultivation of roses began in ancient times, with the first known cultivation of roses in China around 500 BC. From China, rose cultivation spread to other parts of Asia, the Middle East and eventually to Europe.

In the Middle Ages, roses were mainly used for medicinal purposes and were also grown in monastery gardens. It was not until the 18th century that modern rose breeding began with the introduction of new varieties and techniques for crossing and breeding roses. The 19th and 20th centuries were important periods for rose breeding, with renowned breeders such as David Austin and Joseph Pernet-Ducher introducing new and improved rose varieties.

Today there are thousands of different varieties of roses available, each with their own unique characteristics and properties, thanks to centuries of breeding and selection.

This Rosa was specially selected by Matthijs Hazeleger for Nelumbogarden.
