The use of coconut fiber for hanging baskets has a long history dating back to ancient times. Coconut fibers have been used for centuries for their durability, natural properties and versatility.
The origin of the use of coconut fiber for hanging pots probably lies in Southeast Asia, where coconut palms grow in abundance. Coconut fiber is obtained from the outermost layer of the coconut, known as the fibrous husk or coconut husk.
These fibers are extracted by removing the peel and separating and processing the fibers. In ancient times, coconut fibers were used for various purposes, including making ropes, mats and baskets.
The fibers were valued for their strength, flexibility and resistance to moisture and rot. Hanging pots made from coconut fibers were popular because of their natural appearance and ability to retain water well.
With time, the use of coconut fiber spread to different parts of the world. In the 19th and 20th centuries, coconut fibers were increasingly used in horticulture and agriculture, especially for growing orchids and other epiphytic plants.
Coconut fiber hanging pots were prized for their good drainage and air circulation, which is beneficial for plant root growth. Nowadays, Kokodama hanging pots are popular in both indoor and outdoor spaces. They are used for hanging different types of plants, such as hanging succulents, ferns and climbing plants.
Coconut fibers are a sustainable alternative to traditional hanging baskets, because they are biodegradable and do not contain harmful substances. All in all, the use of coconut fiber for hanging baskets has a long history and remains popular due to the natural properties and durability of coconut fiber. Kokodama hanging pots are a beautiful and environmentally friendly choice for hanging plants in your interior or garden.
